in a nutshell, i'm currently on a 3 weeks electives as part of a compulsory assignment for uni. despite the fact that my holidays is cut short and having to spend an average of 10+ hours per day in the hospital, i'm really enjoying my attachment. studying medicine can be really dry when it's all just based on books but once you get out there and see actual patients .. that's when you truly understand the beauty of medicine.

[1] Internal Medicine // Dr. AR ;

- main patients are those with diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, asthma. plenty of time spent on giving advice on diet and lifestyle changes. the doc was really nice, even had chats about our hobbies and he gave me some inspirational insights on life. ;)

[2] Pulmonology // Dr. AM ;

- had a very short clinic time here. :( managed to see common cases like URTI, sinusitis and even a not very medically-related case of anxiety attack. chest X-ray of pleural effusion and pneumothorax! definitely need more practice.

[3] Cardiology // Dr. LC ;

- plenty of CAD cases. heard murmurs and measured pulse (only hands-on here). had to run to keep up with the doctor who loves using the stairs. saw stress test, stress ECHO, DSCT, and waiting for angiogram! doc loves to kacau, but we're now best friends. LOL!

[4] Hematology // Dr. NSC ;

- here is where i do early morning ward rounds every day! common cases like leukemia, lymphoma, ITP, multiple myeloma, DVT, IDA and uncommon ones like Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia. saw bone marrow aspirate biopsy and lumbar puncture. :)

[5] Surgery // Dr. CKH ;

- pioneer batch of IMU! :) cases of anal fissures during clinic duty. wound dehiscence patient in the ward. 5 hours in the OT - removal of hernia in right groin; hemithyroidectomy; excision of cyst in right breast. surgery for a first-timer is always interesting.

[6] Rheumatology // Dr. RR ;

- got to be one of the friendliest doc ever! covered osteoarthritis, RA, plantar fasciitis, spondylitis, fibromyalgia, etc. also had a chance to view some X-rays (narrowing of joint space!). if you think there won't be that many patients here, don't be deceived. ;)

[7] Gastroenterology // Dr. GK ;

- again, very short clinic time spent here. :( he had FOUR students under him. *salute for patience! managed to see OGDS, and another endoscopy for a bleeder in ICU. liver pathology :( need to study again. drilled on Hep B, Hep C, HIV. TIPS for portal hypertension!

[8] Dermatology // Dr. CSM ;

- who knew so many things could go wrong with the skin? lichen planus, vitiligo, herpes labialis, fungal infections (mostly tinea), psoriasis, urticaria, pityriasis alba, and the list goes on. the in-thing to get rid of pimples is retinoic acid. salicylic acid? so 40 years ago - doc.

[9] Pediatrics // Dr. SW ;

- by far, my favourite. :) APGAR score! most of the babies that come in are due for their vaccination. saw the art of giving them injections (but yes, they will still cry anyway). my task was to guess their developmental age by observing their actions. doc is a super family man. :)

there's just so many things that goes on every day and so many new things to learn. i highly doubt that i will be able to remember everything. :( but the up side is that at least i can have an idea about most of the specialties available. :)

well, another week left to go!

The Testimony: NSt Y.E.S 2010.

The highlight of my holidays is probably when I went off for 4 days 3 nights to Kampar for NSt's Youth Equipping School (Y.E.S) 2010! It has a totally different feel compared to the previous youth camps - and trust me it did teach us so many things that we never knew before.

Being part of the committee definitely was a blessing to me because when you prepare yourself for something, you plunge yourself deep into understanding it first. And even though you hear it twice or thrice, for me I will always discover something new. Also, thanks so much to fellow commitee members and our camp commander this year, Joanne! - for making the meetings a good time spent together. We had a lot of fun. ;)

Not forgetting the important people of all - Ps. Daniel, Ps. Andy and Ps. Danny! Thank you for imparting the Word to us. For those who came empty, I'm sure they have been filled! :)

The games wasn't as physical as previous camps, but for me I'm glad that the focus was on spiritual food. Because at the end of the day, we've got to always come back to what is most important. Those past few days, things just came knocking into my head and it made it easier to get back on the narrow street that we always diverge from. It's not going to be another camp where you get the spiritual high for a while and by the middle of the new year you burn out completely. Set your priorities straight and don't look back at the things that pulled you down before.

Honestly, I was so at peace. If we could remain in that kind of environment I would be more than happy. To worship and serve Him completely in the day. But that's not what we're here for. It's not about being in your comfort zone. It's about being OUT THERE - whoever said it will be easy? So you've always got to be ready.

To put everything in a nutshell - I know what branches in my life that I have to cut off. This is not the time, and it is not the season. Most times we take charge of our whole life completely and realize only too late that we've been blind all along and running around like a headless chicken. Purposeless. I trust Him because He is real. And if you allow, He will break the chains that keeps you from coming back to the truth. Taking baby steps to change, whether by sending encouraging messages or even keeping track of your life to someone accountable to you .. it all starts with something. And this is my change :)

boat ride to the middle of the lake!

the whole event is about 2 - 3 hours. so for one session you get about 5 (or more) attempts to wakeboard. :) less people means you get to try longer! in total, you get about 10 (more or less) which is enough to make your arms ache the next day! but it's shizz fun! x) plus, the instructors are super nice. we were lucky coz the weather was awesome too (no rain and no blistering hot sun!)

in my opinion (and probably many others as well), Rapunzel is hailed as the BEST Disney movie of all time! :)

the things i love most about this movie:

[♥] a fairytale story WITHOUT the need to have a "prince charming", but instead a wanted bandit. :) good twist!
[♥] genuinely funny! (not by lame jokes, forced-to-laugh, etc.) the chameleon is seriously cute!
[♥] the awesome 3D effect of the lantern scene (and the romantic-ness of being at the lake watching) - my favourite scene! and of course, the whole lantern idea is awesome as well ;)
[♥] a feel-good movie that can almost make you cry. :')
[♥] addictive songs and original storyline! this movie is a serious must-watch!

i decided to make my holidays more productive by working. ;) many thanks to kimmie for introducing me to this job!

so i started work on the 21st of Nov and will end on the 7th of Dec. yup, it's going to be about 2 weeks already!

i have to say that this job is quite enjoyable (you don't have to stand all day) and my supervisor is really, really nice! :) plus my work partners are really friendly .. though don't really get to see them much because i'll be alone for the first 5 hours :( but really, i am seriously lucky and blessed!

learnt about loads of products that i never knew existed and not a day goes by without some customers saying "this shop sells such lovely/interesting/useful items!" - and it's really true! all eco-friendly at the same time too. whoa, i think i've really gone greener .. am gonna start using reusable bags whenever shopping spree comes. say NO to plastic bags! x)

my view every day from the counter .. :)

Dirt candles are awesome! (you can use the oil as moisturizer when it burns .. and each has a different scent!) and also was very tempted to buy a teething bling .. but it's pricey and i don't have a baby. :(

Nana Mays and the multi-purpose bracelet (can be used to hang your handbag and worn as bracelet) that everyone loves but no one has bought yet .. :(

fun cones! a definite must-have for every kid! and of course, the RUME (reuse me) bags! come and get some! :)

ZOOBIES! 3in1 function - soft toy, pillow, blanket! i would seriously buy this! .. for my niece or nephew maybe. :P

these bags are good for beach use and groceries. most people think it's a hammock though. lol!

had to go through a round of understanding baby cloth diapers! get rid of disposable ones and save the environment by using these! (your baby becomes a fashionista too!)

the very pretty handmade birdies .. :)

okay, that's just a gist of what we have here! come and visit (i'll be there for the last 3 days) we're at BV, outside Village Grocer in front of the entrance. you seriously can't miss it. ;)

The Movie Marathon.

after a massive disappearance in preparation for my end of semester examination (EoS 2), i'm happy to say that i finally have my life back! :) and attempting to make full use of my 2 months holiday because apparently this is the best we'll ever get!

in a nutshell, for the past month of my break i've been catching up with my lovelies over ice-cream, yum cha sessions, BBQ, movies, shopping, etc. and it has all been great! and since i'm in a movies/dramas frenzy, here's my take ..

one word - CUTE! and other words to describe it - sweet, entertaining, good for the kids (and adults too :P) no regrets watching it .. and you should too for the laughter. :)

thanks kimmie for the tickets! :) an eye-opener to how Facebook actually started. i found it interesting (although was definitely lost at most of the IT talk, seriously.. O.O) and also true stories are awesome to watch x)

disappointed. :( maybe it was because i already read the book, but i just felt that it was too draggy during the trio parts and too little scenes of the other characters! and the ending .. T__T oh well!

i *hearts* this movie! even though the book is definitely better, but at least the remake does do justice .. there's loads of hidden meanings. ;) and looking at the food seriously makes you drool .. thanks mei mei! :)

i'm a korean drama addict! finished "my girlfriend is a gumiho" in 2 days! and took about 4 days for "you are beautiful". lol, there goes my sleeping time ..

okay, honestly i felt that it wouldn't be that nice because it was too fairytale-like (nine-tailed fox?!) but when you watch it, it's a totally different feeling all together! it was really GOOD! and seriously the lead actress is super pretty even without make-up and wearing the same dirty clothes all the time.. thank you guys for the recommendation :)

one thing about this drama is that i really like their songs! too bad can't understand korean. :( hehe, it was probably as good as the previous drama although i felt so, so sorry for Shin Woo (you will know when you watch it) .. and this made me listen to CNBlue! x) they did a really good job picking the guys cast for this drama! ^^

It was finally here - Anna's wedding day, the day she had dreamed about and planned for months. The small, picturesque church was crowded with friends and family.

The Day You Broke Her Heart.

dear diary,

today, i saw a girl. she was beautiful with a sweet-looking personality - the kind of girl that you would date if you were a guy. she stood there silently, in the most serene view one could ever imagine. the waves crashed and the wind roared but as i watched her stroll along the beach it was as if mother nature muted in her presence. it was just her (and me, watching curiously) and the whole entire beach with the whitest sand ever. she turned around, her long hair flew all around her, and smiled a smile so genuine of happiness.

i looked behind me and realized we weren't alone. in front of me stood a tall, well-built figure of a man, the kind of figure that had the arms you would want to run into forever for protection. he walked towards her and gave her a big embrace, and in my mind i kept thinking there isn't a more beautiful or perfect couple than this. he looked in her eyes and held her - and it felt like time had stopped just for them. with just that fraction of a second one could know, one could feel - the joyous aura of selfless love. no exchange of words needed. he took her hand and they continued walking .. towards a journey together that would never end.

dear diary,

today, i saw a girl. she was a mess. her hair looked uncombed for days and her eyes looked like she lacked sleep for weeks. her body was weak, she couldn't even support her own weight. she knelt there, her knees buried deep within the sand. her hands covered her face, where she sobbed endlessly. but no one could hear her, for the stormy rain covered all her cries.

i was at loss of what to do. as i stood there watching with my umbrella, i realized it was inhuman for me to leave just like that. i walked towards her, covering us with the umbrella and asked if she was alright. she turned to look at me and as i focused on her i was shocked to see that she was the same girl i saw just the other day. where had her beauty gone?

she tried to smile, but this smile was so different. it was forced, lacking everything it once had. like all the happiness was sucked out of her into a vacuum. i helped her up and we walked silently away from the stormy rain, away from the beach, away from where it all began.

you can't imagine what i just saw. as i walked pass the same beach, i saw a familiar figure. i looked closer and realized it was that man! i thought he was dead? curious, i walked towards him. what i saw made my heart break into pieces. he had his arms around a girl, but she wasn't the same girl as before. he was still happy. the new girl seemed oblivious to what he used to share before meeting her. unable to contain my feelings, i slapped him. before he realized what was happening i threw the letter in his face.

over the past few days i've experienced some sort of uplifting feeling. this drive that motivates me to be more and do more. and without a doubt it comes from the people i've been able to meet up with after a really long time. they are the reasons that keep me going especially during times like these.

my brother & sister; who i managed to rant my problems to about how idiotic some people can be that really drives me up the wall. please do not stick your nose into other people's business. we have our own integrity and our own reasons why we do what we do. i have seriously been very patient but i think there's a limit to how much one can take. whatever it is, they always make me feel better. :)

my high school friends; who i managed to meet up with (although not all were there!) really miss you all! catching up with them really feels like we're still in high school. and knowing how distant we are now sucks. :(

today, woke up and took that usual half an hour drive to uni just for a one hour lecture. =.= i want to kill myself. but after a few (okay, A LOT) of rounds of Pikaball and short jamming session (yes, we have a music room!) - Jin took me down to Klang to do my CDL license! finally graduated from a P driver. :P

oh, and here's a tip. don't renew your license before the date of expiry (even just one day before!) because apparently then you are only eligible to renew it for one year. :( haiyo! and i thought being a bit more kan cheong would have paid off.

The Charity Home Visit.

had our charity home visit at Rumah Victory Elderly Home, Old Klang Road on the 20th of March [Saturday]! the fundraiser event went well and we did manage to contribute quite a lot [along with contributions from G11]! :)

the only big barrier was that all the old folks spoke Chinese. so me with my limited Chinese-speaking abilities could only go as far as telling my name. =.= the disappointment i felt was inevitable. i am sending my kids to Chinese school!! .. overall, we do hope they enjoyed the little bit of company.

at times like these i miss Interact Club and all the community service we used to do. :( finally, a realization to get more involved with society! let's go. :)

The IMU Orientation Week #2.

orientation has finally come to an end! although it was definitely a hectic 2 weeks, i'm going to miss all the fun times we had together as a group! :( so here's some snippets of what happened during the past week! ;)

Sunday [28.02.10]

we had a Track Trip event whereby we had to go to Lake Garden, Tugu Negara and either Petaling Street or Suria KLCC doing certain tasks. on top of that, each group was assigned to a Disney princess and our group got Princess Ariel. so with limited time, i pulled out some of my sister's clothes and borrowed the rest! :)

without a doubt, i had a massive sunburn! since the weather was so blistering hot, we didn't go to Petaling Street to find the 3 top rated food. instead, we headed over to Suria KLCC in search of couple sleepwear! :)

made a pit-stop at Nando's for lunch! itadakimas!

Monday [01.03.10]

skipped almost all the PPDs (oh dear) so that we had time to prepare for our performances! we had Dresscode 2 - which involved altering the lyrics of the A1 - Take On Me song with the theme Briyani. it was definitely last-minute but we all had fun so it's all good! :)

Tuesday [02.03.10]

we had the introduction of PBL (Problem Based Learning) talks in the morning. basically PBL is when we're given a case problem and we have to make hypothesis and figure out how to solve it. we were separated into groups and had our first session as well! this is when internet research and library books become our life-savers.

later in the afternoon, we had a continuation to our First Aid Training session which started last week.

apparently i'm very heavy. :( sob!

and the rest of the day we were FREE! no orientation games on this day. so we went out for dinner as a group at Jalil Seafood after brainstorming for our Variety Night performance. :)

Wednesday [03.03.10]

we had Telematch in the evening and that's when we really got down and dirty! headed to the National Sports Complex and all our games were at the field. but overall, we definitely had godspeed! aja aja hwaiting Group 12! ;)

Thursday [04.03.10]

the big day! :) prep-ed for Variety Night - our given characters were Hercules & Merlin and our theme was Everyday Is Party Day. watch out for the videos!

the QC [Quality Control] team. purpose is to throw newspaper balls and hang signs on people who are too lame or too horny!

Friday [05.03.10]

spent the day with boyf and friends. it was a free day until Finale Night at around 6-ish pm.

met up with the rest of the group later that evening and we stayed until about 9-ish p.m before leaving to Oldtown White Coffee, Sri Petaling for dinner together! then we headed over to Midvalley for Valentine's Day at 12.45 a.m! the movie ended at about 3 a.m and my eyes were already closing in between the movie. note: never watch a midnight movie when you're too tired!

Saturday [06.03.10]

i realized that Sunway Pyramid is actually a good place to shop [and cheap too]! if you're sick of One Utama, The Curve and Midvalley, this is your go-to place! i feel the impulsive shopper in me rising already.. aiks!

dinner was risotto, which is rice cooked with broth and sprinkled with grated cheese [dictionary.com]! thank you for cooking us dinner ~~Uncle~~ Boone! :)

The IMU Orientation Week #1.

the past few days have been the craziest for me. yup, the IMU Orientation Week has started! so since Tuesday, i've been ending sessions at EARLIEST 10-ish p.m or it could even stretch up til 12 midnight! one of the reasons is because of the lectures and talks we have that start from 8 a.m all the way until evening! so games actually begin from 5 p.m onwards only. :(

Tuesday [23.02.10]

we were divided into groups and i'm in Group 12! 2012 SURVIVORS! woots~ :) met quite a number of people from Taylor's Subang and outstation ones too. the guys in my group are quite quiet and usually it'll be some of us girls causing major hoo-haas. working with this group is definitely fun but i do miss hanging out with my college buddies! :(

so on the first night, we had dry ice-breakers and wet ice-breakers.

dry-icebreakers:

[1] bomb game - i'm sure everybody knows this!

[2] pole dance - the tallest guy in each group had to stand on tables and 2 girls were supposed to dance around him. you can guess what happened to me ..

[3] banana pass - first person puts it into his/her mouth and passes it to the next person who puts it on his/her neck. then the 3rd person takes it off with his/her feet and puts it back into the mouth of the 4th person. and it goes on and on. quite an interesting game indeed. :P

[4] crazy milkshake - one representative from each group had to down a polystyrene cup of .. substance [can't really call it a legal drink] with tons of different stuff in it. think: Nando's peri-peri sauce, cili padi, etc. CRAZY SPICY! no surprises that all who went were only guys!

wet ice-breakers:

there were quite a lot of stations playing different sort of games but the MAIN thing is that we all got down and dirty! so from getting cooked spaghetti, flour, oil and butter in our hair to swimming across car park lots, tons of commando crawl, getting eggs cracked on top of our heads and most games that involve getting wet [not just with water!] - the whole night was devoted to a real crazy [but good!] time! there were plenty of good team-building games as well.. just goes to show that you can't depend solely on one person to move forward! every single person is important in keeping a team alive! :)

after the usual talks in the morning - evening, we had our first Indoor Treasure Hunt! ran around like monkeys in the uni performing various tasks. one of my favourites was when one of my teammates and i had to rescue 2 other members in this long corridor full of discussion rooms on the left and right. we had only one candle [which blew off halfway =.=] and the music was freaking SCARY! it was almost pitch black and my teammate and i had to kick open as many doors to find which room they were held hostage in within 3 minutes. sometimes zombies or ghosts may pop out of nowhere and that was seriously freaky! our only weapon was chanting the phrase "kill maneater" in Korean which sounded something like "sik in jong eul juk yeo pa" but you know when you're scared it comes out all gibberish. :P but we succeeded in the end!

Thursday [25.02.10]

prep-ed for Dress Code 1 [which is sort of like a short skit of the theme given]. we had "Alvin & the Chipmunks Wanna Be Astro~~nauts~~nuts". ;) let's just say all of the performances by the groups definitely should be PG-rated!

Friday [26.02.10]

went to the Commonwealth Park, Bukit Jalil for the Outdoor Treasure Hunt! a lot more physical than the previous games. and i just realized how low my stamina is. :( so we got really dirty again, but of course all in the name of fun! there was one station where the guys had to soak their shirts in a pail that smelt like vomit [some pretty nasty stuff in there!]. so from duck walks, frog leaps, star jumps, push-ups, helicopter and of course running from one end to another - these are just probably the appetizer of what's going to happen next week!

so how does it feel to be waking up at 7 a.m and sleeping at 4 a.m for the past few days? definitely one of my most memorable events. plus the fact that at the end of the day, i will always find my solace. :)

it's gonna be another long week ahead. can't wait! ;)

The IMU Enrolment Day.

in a nutshell, Enrolment Day consisted of :

[6] getting the breakdown of how the next 2 weeks are going to be like. definitely DIRTY!

in a lifetime we meet so many different kinds of people. we meet the ones we label as "eye-candy" but never get the courage to approach, we meet friends of a friend, we meet people we thought seem so familiar. so from strangers to acquaintances, from acquaintances to friends, from friends to best friends, and from best friends to inseparable buddies - some relationships just never stop growing.

and for me, this is one of them.

to the one i only knew through tuition classes in Form 4 - 5, our friendship took a great leap when we ended up in the same class in college. it was as though we were childhood friends. never have i met someone who can understand me so well and someone so sincere; someone who would always be the one i can never fail to count on whenever, wherever, whatever.

to the one who never judged me negatively although my speech and actions falter; and who would always look at all the good times we used to have. i can never express how much you truly mean in my life - and words cannot tell you how much i deeply appreciate and treasure our friendship.

to the one who would protect me at all cost - even if it means going the extra mile. the hand that reaches out and pulls me out of the fires of hell when i'm not thinking straight; and the comforting hugs that i will really miss so much. the shoulder i cried on during my hardest times and the jokes you always make that puts the laughter in my life.

how i will miss you. i will truly miss you. again i'll thank God for putting such a blessing in my life - the greatest best friend anyone could ever have.

This beautifully moving drama is based on the real-life struggles of a 15-year-old girl named Aya who suffered from an incurable disease, but lived life to the fullest until her death at 25. The script is based on the diary Aya kept writing until she could no longer hold a pen. The book that later followed entitled “One Litre of Tears" has sold over 1.1 million copies in Japan alone.

Fifteen year old Ikeuchi Aya was just a normal girl, soon to be high school student and daughter of a family who works at a shop that makes tofu. As time passed, unusual things started happening to Aya lately. She started falling down often and walks in a strange way. Her mother Shioka, takes Aya to see the doctor, and he informs Shioka that Aya has spinocerebellar degeneration - a terrible disease where the cerebellum of the brain gradually deteriorates to the point where the victim cannot walk, speak, write, or eat. A cruel disease, as it does not affect the mind in the least. How will Aya react when told about her disease? And how will Aya live from now on?

i just finished watching this drama recently and it is definitely a must-watch! even more so because it is based on a true story. i don't think i've cried so much just watching 11 episodes of a single drama series. this drama made me realize how we all take life for granted. how we all take waking up every day - with the ability to walk and talk, sing and dance, write and even go to school - for granted. in fact, i got so into this drama that i actually researched a bit of the disease spinocerebellar degeneration and if there is any cure for it now.

if the number of days that you are able to continue living for can be counted by the fingers of your hands, how would you feel? what would you change? for me, i feel like the breath i take each day is like a new breath of life God has granted me. we don't deserve to live for every tomorrow. and we don't know how many tomorrows are there left in our lives.

so when can we start living the right way?

as much as i hate arguing with my parents, get angry at them because they don't let things go my way - at the end of the day if i still have too much pride to apologize, i try my best to seek forgiveness from God. because that's the least i can do. we may not realize it now, but one day we'll find out that family is the one who cares for us most, and will continue to be with us from the start til the end - even when every one else has left us behind.

the first day of Feb and zillions of people were infesting shopping malls because of Federal Territory Day.

the goodness and sinfulness of Ice Kacang.. sigh.

i realized that i regret not trying out Pasta Zanmai when it was right smack in the shopping mall i frequent to for a whole year because of college. although the prices are above average expenditure for meals - it's definitely worth a visit! their sister shop, Sushi Zanmai is yum yums too! (: [the pasta above are beef pastas and healthy fruit tea!]

headed over to Sarah's place for the HB1 Time Capsule Ceremony. :P

but we all managed to wake up before noon.. although i felt like a zombie. raaa~

oh, some of us went for the Haunted House indoors as well! it wasn't really that scary.. the "ghosts" aren't allowed to touch you. so there will just be moving statues, loud noises or a hand sticking out of nowhere to try and scare you. now we all know who's the most scared one! (:

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

a new day, a new year, a new start. (: my first day of 2010 was definitely an interesting experience. no, i was not hungover or suffering from a blackout and memory loss (though my throat was dying for water, that's for sure!) .. let's just say waking up in HK will never be like waking up here in KL. (:

__ our last lunch in HK was at a dim sum restaurant! crazy expensive.

p/s; my eyes are horrible, i know. i should've worn sunglasses. and i never smile like that!

we went to Ap Lei Chau for more shopping at the outlets there. but in the end, my sister and i were just too tired to join the rest so we took a break at a cafe upstairs.

__ waiting, wanting, wishing.

soon enough, it was time to leave for the airport and catch the plane back to KL! there's something about HK that i'll miss dearly. despite all the bad things that happened during our trip (yes, there was the down side!) like not being able to speak Cantonese, getting lost on the way back to the hotel or anywhere else, suffering the winter cold, etc. - all in all, it was a great getaway and it was definitely worth every cent. but it wouldn't have been this great had it not been for the people who took care of us! THANK YOU! (:

to the one who keeps saying "your money is no good here", to the one who sent us back to the hotel on the first night of clubbing, to the one who got VIP entrances for us to enter the clubs (the queue lasts forever, mind you), to the one who sent us off to the airport, carried our bags, said the goodbye .. there's so many. hope to return the favour somehow, someday. (;

this was the best shopping day! thanks to some advice from the locals, we headed to H&M - a store not found in Msia, unfortunately. we went to the one in Langham Place, Mongkok and spent a few hours there buying clothes and accessories! (:

after shopping at the mall, we went to find Garden Street for more cheap shopping! the stalls weren't all that great, but do check out the side shops! they had pretty cheap stuff especially one store which sold their products ranging from HKD49 - HKD79! that's only about RM25 - RM 40! STEAL! (;

p/s; all the dresses i've been wearing were bought from HK at unbelievable prices!

__ nissin instant noodles, chewy fishballs and hot soy.

we got so caught up shopping that we decided to skip dinner with the rest. hence the unhealthy meal above!

at about 11-ish p.m, we joined them at Sevva for drinks, which also has an amazing view!

after midnight was party time! first stop was dragon-i which didn't work out but we then headed to Prive which was probably a lot better! (;

we still had to fulfill our shopping ambitions so this time we headed down to Tung Chung where the factory outlets were located at.

after a really long day spent there, we bought .. NOTHING! again, another failed shopping attempt. :( the stuff there wasn't as cheap as we expected and there weren't a lot of nice items. so we both concluded that KL shopping is much better, seriously! (or it may be because it was winter time in HK.. sigh)

anyway, things got more exciting as we headed for drinks and dinner with the FF Brothers (what's FF? you'll find out soon!) and that's when we met A LOT of new people. they were really nice.. although i was probably the youngest!

we all headed for dinner at an exclusive Chinese restaurant. we met even more people and here comes the hot seat! (;

after that, it was more drinks at more bars! Ted brought us to an Ice Bar where it was FREAKING cold (as if it wasn't already freezing outside!) and i was on the verge of turning blue!

it's been a really long time since i last travelled, so i was really looking forward to this HK trip! it was just my sister and i, plus the main reason we were going was to attend an event on New Year's Eve (coming up soon)!

we reached Hong Kong at around 10-ish in the morning. the 4 hours flight there wasn't a pleasant one and i hardly got any sleep o_O (hence the major eye bags for the next few days).

being a part of the Prom Committee has both pros and cons. the good thing is that we get to plan and have the "backstage" privilege of everything. the bad thing is that we will always know the major screw-ups which hindered the event from being better than planned.

nevertheless, TCSH Prom Night '09 for me was memorable enough. the time spent with friends (all dressed up!) and just enjoying each others' company - talking about what happened throughout college and what not.. that's good enough. (:

at around 6.30 a.m [just before i left for youth camp], i was up to check my SAM results. well honestly, i had an okay sleep the whole night until i woke up by the beeping of my phone and receiving smses from my friends about their results. so i practically jumped out of the bed to check mine.

so i logged in and the results page appeared. this one only showed the grades for our final papers. my grades weren't the perfect ones i hoped for, to say the least. i was practically imagining what my TER would be already as i clicked on the next page.

what i saw was a real shock. so i just had to refresh the page :P

this was definitely way higher than what i thought i would have been getting, considering my performance throughout the whole year. i was satisfied, and happy! but honestly i can say, this is not what i could have done alone. just as how God blessed me with good SPM results that i didn't expect, now He has blessed me with these results for SAM! so all glory goes to the One above! (:

also to my awesome classmates, thank you for all the support! to the ones i owe so much for tutoring me in my worse subjects, lunch is on me! i will really miss you, HB1-ers! :(

i'll be collecting my actual results from college today. lastly, congrats to all of you guys with awesome results! am really proud of you all.. hope to meet up with you all soon ya! OUTING TIME! (;

The HB1 Penang Trip '09.

Penang Day I || 13th Nov '09 [Friday]

one of the most last-minute trip ever! we settled bus fare, accommodation, etc. during the last week of our finals. two days after our last paper, we took off for a 5-hours trip up north! (:
checked in Gurney Hotel, which is a hotel i would definitely recommend for a class outing. we booked a 2 Bedroom Suite - which has a king-sized bed in one room, a queen-sized bed in a separate room and a common living room. the rates were pretty good as well! for a "supposedly" room for maximum 4 - 5 persons, we squeezed all 8 of us inside. (;

the master bedroom had a pretty lavish bathroom, and even a jacuzzi! no surprises who took over this room. :P the guys couldn't help themselves but to act super "jakun" in the bathtub..

after a long ride, we were STARVING! so we went hunting for some food. there were some shops near the hotel as we walked by but it didn't seem too inviting.

finally we reached the Gurney market place [where the food was just okay only] so we settled there!
it started to rain really heavily so we were pretty much stranded for quite a while. it was close to dinner time when we gave up waiting and ran through the downpour armed with a single umbrella.

we made a pit-stop at Gurney Plaza, drenched. at least now i can tell my kids that walking in a mall all wet is not cool at all.. especially when you're FREEZING! [in Penang, how ironic]

since we had to wait for the rain to stop to walk back to the hotel, we decided to watch a movie. 2012! so depressing. :( somehow i feel my favourite cinema will always be GSC in One Utama.

the first night was pretty chill. most of us were dead tired so after a little bit of TV [oh, their channels were pretty good too :P!] we snoozed off.

Penang Day II || 14th Nov '09 [Saturday]

the good thing about sleeping in the same premises [room sounds wrong, hehe] as the guys is that.. you won't wake up late! all 3 of us girls were hopeless at waking up early. so it'd be the guys that come [without knocking! so horrible..] and burst through the doors - pull your feet out of the bed / open the curtains so the sunlight blinds you / jump on the bed / pull the blanket off / threaten to lie on top of you .. OR in the most worst case scenario - they'll roll you up using the blanket to form a human siew loong pau and carry you out into the living room. [lol, Chloe you know we love you! Colleen and i tried to save you.. i think. eheh!]

so, another morning to hunt for food! this time we headed to an alley way for apparently the BEST cendol! with Jimmy as tour guide. luckily, we did manage to find the place!

yes, it has lived up to its name! definitely recommended when visiting Penang! (:

there's even char kuey teow which was pretty good. (: i really miss the food now.

this was our most relied on mode of transport. the buses have nice seats. (: and taxi drivers that do not use meters are real con artists! RM25 - RM30 just to get somewhere! >:( you're always paying either double or triple than the meter.. so don't get conned people!

we headed to Kek Lok Si Temple, where there's a really long row of shops selling fake goodies on the way up.
by the way, shopping here is HORRIBLE! we had some pretty bad experiences here. just never shop at Penang. save it for KL or even overseas!

mm, we definitely felt better after the best assam laksa in a very long time! (: located at the streets nearby, they sold assam laksa by the roadside with sugarcane. BLISS!

what's Penang if you don't go to a beach right? so we took the bus up to Batu Ferringhi!

it was definitely a much-needed relaxation time after a long year of stress and hard work! fun times pass by so fast though..

when it was about to rain, we left to find a place to eat dinner. we managed to find a restaurant thanks to the guys which was not too far off.

i somehow appreciate the feeling of eating tai chow food with friends. it's a so much more different feeling than going to fast food outlets or even expensive restaurants. the feeling is more.. homey and closer-knitted. we should eat like this more often guys. (:

after dinner, headed back to the hotel. some were tired, some where restless - but Chun Tean managed to get everyone to go out at midnight for supper. we went to one of the shops nearby [lazy to walk!] and the place reminded me so much of Hartamas Square. we stayed there until the wee hours of the morning just talking about life. we talked about college. we talked about unis. we talked about our future. we talked about the present. we talked about how separated we'll be.. how we needed more trips like these. (:

Penang Day III || 15th Nov '09 [Sunday]

it's suicide to get up so early when you sleep so late. but the guys show no mercy. :( anyway, we had to check out by 12pm. i definitely didn't feel like leaving the hotel so soon.
we went to a "toilet-concept" restaurant [courtesy of Wai Kit] at Queensbay Mall for lunch. pretty interesting concept indeed! sitting on toilet bowls and eating doesn't feel all too bad. :P the food is very Kim Gary-ish [think: cheese-baked rice, mee, etc.]

it was another 5-hours journey back to KL. writing this blog entry helps me remember the good times that we spent up in Penang and how short it was. we missed out on a lot of things [like this awesome nasi kandar place called Line Clear that i recently found out about] and spent too little time there! 3 days 2 nights is definitely too short a trip to enjoy. let's make a mental note of that (;

The Blood Donation.

Blood Donation Drive @ TCSH 14th August '09

my first time donating blood was surprisingly, not a very painful experience. the scariest part whereby they poke the needle into your vein was swift, quick and as pain as an ant-bite [if you don't look, hehe]. the funniest [and stupidest, for me] thing that happened was that i was unaware which bag my blood was going to - so i kept thinking it was the smaller one where hardly any blood was filling up. when the nurse plastered my arm and took the "correct" bag away i was like O_O at the amount of blood..

anyway, today was another joyful day of my getting poked with needles! went to get my Hepatitis B screening and my lab report says:

HEPATITIS SEROLOGY

Hepatitis B Surface antigen [HBsAg] - Not Detected
Hepatitis B Surface antibody [HBsAb] - Not Detected

this is worse than having low immunity. =.=

so paps brought back the vaccination and i got the first jab today. :( now that was painful. have to keep up with a 0-1-6 routine of getting the jab. 3 times is torture!

The IMU Interview.

the day my finals ended, i was trying to squeeze in as much information as i could about IMU from past interviews. the next day [12th November] was my turn.

upon reaching there [about an hour earlier because we were afraid we would get lost], we waited. and waited. and waited. finally Yew Loong went first, followed by Jimmy half an hour later. i went in last to a different room.

honestly, i wasn't dressed to my most best [even the guys looked more formal than me!] and my shirt seemed to mess up all over the place. there were girls in blazers, girls with ties, girls in working high heels and girls in high-waist skirts. and then there were girls like me - collared shirt, black slacks, peep-toe flats. really, now.

and not to mention the fact i had really obvious highlights in my hair. the last hair treatment whereby i dyed my hair dark brown to remove the "blonde-ness" from it didn't have too great an effect and the highlights were pretty much visible. i soon knew that honestly, they don't care.

so when it was finally my turn, i went in - smiled - wait to be seated. the normal protocol. then it started with the basic questions like:

[1] Tell us more about yourself and why you would like to study Medicine
[2] Why would you like to pursue Medicine in IMU?
[3] What are some of the characteristics a doctor should have?

.. and the rest of the questions sort of went around those main ideas.

one of the things that bugged me the most after stepping out of the interview was that the lady interviewer kept asking me the same questions as Q3 [in different ways, kind of]. it was as if the answers i was giving was not what she wanted. but yet, i really didn't know what else to say.

but of course, the best part about the IMU interview is the ever-famous CASE STUDY. here's how mine went, as detailed as i can remember:

SCENARIO:
You're the captain of a ship. There is a bad storm and you have to throw some people overboard in order to save the rest as the ship capacity is only meant for [insert number here] people but you have more. However, if you choose to try to save everyone, you may risk the lives of all in the ship.

.. something like that. but the scenario was twice as long as the above with exact numbers just to confuse you.

so i played around with the answers until they specifically asked me one question from that context:

If you were to screen through all the people, which type of people would you choose to throw overboard?

here comes my heroic answer, so brace yourself!

Um, I know this sounds really bad. But I'll throw the elderly. This is because this group of people have already reached the prime age of their lives and have experienced almost all of that which life can offer.. *babbles on*

after trying to convey my very "convincing" answer, the interviewers just smiled and nodded their heads. and emphasize that "there's no right or wrong answer". in the end, one of them smiled [sympathetic, i bet] and told me:

"Why don't you choose the ones who can swim?"

Me: O_O

wooo, score one for the person who kills old people! there is no other better expression than saying that I, yes I, just got my ass pwned real bad.

but they were really nice about it. so we all just laughed about it and it kind of ended along the way.

so after telling my "amusing" experience to both guys, they LAUGHED AT ME! sigh, nothing like making me feel better right? so that was it. say bye-bye to the offer, person who throws old people into the sea.

oops, but don't give up hope too fast! about 2 weeks after the "tragic, epic fail, die-die" interview, a pos laju packet landed on my desk. COULD IT BE?! OMG! .. NO. maybe it's just that top i ordered from the online blogshop. or maybe a long lost relative decided to say hi..

.. uh. wrong, wrong. it WAS the offer! wow, they forgave me for my barbaric answer of killing old people! *heaves sigh of relief*

it's still conditional though. the requirements.. sigh.

anyway, here are a few tips that i *think* sort of helped me pull through:

[1] SMILE. there's nothing better for the interviewers than an interviewee who's cheerful and not "black-faced". so SMILE WHEN YOU TALK. smile with your eyes, if possible.
[2] LOOK INTERESTED. bend forward if you have to [to a certain extent].
[3] BE COURTEOUS. shake their hands either before or after the interview. or if you forget, BOW! :P
[4] prep some questions you might want to ask, because chances are they will ask you if you have any questions for them.
